Tony Cantave Certifications
Tony Cantave holds five CompTIA certifications: A+, Network+, Security+, Cloud+ and CySA+. Together they cover the path from fixing a single device to running and defending systems in the cloud. Below is a short explanation of what each certification covers and how Tony uses it in his work on Local Flyer Ads, in his own software projects and in his AI model evaluation work.
CompTIA A+
What it covers: computer and mobile device hardware, operating systems, basic networking, security fundamentals and a structured approach to troubleshooting.
How Tony uses it: every Local Flyer Ads location runs on a 10 inch Android screen, and keeping those devices healthy is A+ work: setup, updates, connectivity checks and figuring out why a device stopped behaving. It also builds on the equipment diagnostics he did for years in logistics and manufacturing.
CompTIA Network+
What it covers: how networks are designed, addressed, configured and troubleshot, including subnetting, routing, switching, VLANs and wireless.
How Tony uses it: planning how screens sit on a host shop's Wi Fi without getting in the way of the owner's own devices, and running a home lab for practice. He shares his study approach in his Network+ subnetting notes and how to build a simple home lab.
CompTIA Security+
What it covers: core security concepts such as threats and vulnerabilities, identity and access management, authentication, authorization and accounting, secure network design and incident response.
How Tony uses it: designing who can sign in and what they can do in the screen management software and in the AI legal intake assistant. His Security+ AAA notes walk through that topic with real examples.
CompTIA Cloud+
What it covers: deploying, securing, maintaining and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure, including automation and capacity planning.
How Tony uses it: applying his Azure and AWS fundamentals to real infrastructure, such as his public Terraform project for a hardened AWS reference architecture, listed on the projects page.
CompTIA CySA+
What it covers: the work of a security analyst: threat detection, log analysis, vulnerability management and incident response.
How Tony uses it: reading logs to find problems before customers do, and making failures visible in the software that runs the screen network. See his CySA+ notes on reading logs.
