Tony CantaveBuilding a Local Screen Ad Network in Connecticut From Scratch
By Tony Cantave ·
When I decided to start Local Flyer Ads, I did not want to just resell someone else's advertising platform. I wanted to understand every piece of it, from the hardware on the wall to the software that decides what plays and when.
The hardware is simple on purpose. Each screen is a 10 inch Android tablet placed in a high traffic local business like a barbershop or laundromat. The host business provides Wi Fi, and the screens are insured. Keeping the hardware affordable means more locations and lower prices for advertisers.
The harder part is the software. I am building my own screen management dashboard so I can schedule ads, see which screens are online, and confirm that each advertiser's spot actually played. That data is what lets us send every new client a photo of their ad running live on day one and track results with a unique code.
On the business side, I kept pricing simple: $199 a month, no setup fee, month to month, and only one business per category per neighborhood. Small business owners have been burned by long contracts and vague results, so the offer had to be easy to say yes to and easy to measure.
We are launching first in New Haven, with Bridgeport next. Alongside the screens, I run a daily CT Business Spotlight on our social pages to highlight well known local businesses and give the community a reason to follow along.
My background is in delivery and logistics, and I spent years working with dispatch systems and ERP integrations. Building this network pulls all of that together: routes became locations, dispatch became scheduling, and the result is a tool that helps the local businesses I used to deliver to get noticed.
